Kids Corner – “Pirate Princess”

I was inspired this week by our awesome Pirate Themed Storytime on Tuesday morning and decided to share with you one of the books we read. Pirate Princess by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen and illustrated by Jill McElmurry.

Princess Bea isn’t like other princesses.  Bea prefers to dreams of being in a pirate crew and sailing the seas instead of attending tea parties and marrying a prince.  One day she walks down to the pier and a real live pirate ship is at dock.  She climbs aboard and asks the captain if she can join his crew.

Captain Jack agrees to let Bea join the crew but assigns her dreadful jobs of which she fails miserably.  In the end Captain Jack decides she does not make a very good pirate so he has her walk the plank.  At the last minute she is saved by a skill which she does have, being able to smell gold.  Princess/Pirate Bea helps the crew find buried treasure and she becomes their hero.  Yea Bea!
